We are aware that fossil fuels are considered by many to be the major contributor to global warming. At Polarcus we believe in sustainable development whereby we will do our utmost to operate climate-resilient projects.This means not only minimizing our environmental footprint, but through that to seek ways to bring positive benefits wherever we can.

This concern is also reflected in the technology we utilize. Some examples are:

  • Our vessels are constructed according to DNV CLEAN-DESIGN notation. This provides additional solutions for controlling and limiting operational emissions and discharges. In addition, this notation specifies design requirements for protection against environmental incidents and for limiting the potential consequences of such.

  • The use of Marine Gas Oil (MGO) with low sulfur content on all Polarcus vessels.

  • All Polarcus vessels are equipped with industry-leading high specification catalysts to substantially reduce our emissions as follows:

 
  • NOx Reduction:
90 – 98%
 
  • HC Reduction:
80 – 90%
 
  • Soot Reduction:
20 – 30%
 
  • Sound Attenuation:
20 – 35dB(A)

  • All vessels incorporate the ULSTEIN X-BOW® design that reduces fuel consumption and allows for improved transit speeds.  Higher transit speeds in calm water due to low angle of entry and increased hull length at the water line. Higher transit speeds in head seas giving reduced power consumption and higher fuel efficiency both in rough and calm waters.

We are also developing a pioneering carbon offset matching program funded from our earnings.
