Polarcus XArray™ is an innovative acquisition configuration developed by Polarcus to deliver superior real un-interpolated data quality and make full use of today’s larger streamer spreads. We give you both improved in-line shots by 100% - 250% and cross-line bin density by up to 400% on any streamer separation and can therefore tailor the acquisition to provide higher fold data, increase cross line sampling and/or improve acquisition efficiency.

Polarcus XArray™ triple source will with a 12x150m streamer configuration achieve the same cross line sampling density as a conventional dual source with a 12x100 streamer configuration but with 50% improved operational efficiency which will reduce the operational exposure for our crew and our environment and also provides a cost effective project to our customers.

Polarcus XArray™ Triple source with a 12x150m streamer configuration, compared to a conventional dual source with a 18x100m streamer configuration will produce the same cross line density and the same efficiency but with 33% less equipment in the water. This will reduce the operational exposure for our crew with less small boat operations for repairs and barnacle cleaning, reduce the risk of tangling and damaging the in sea equipment as well as a significantly reduced CAPEX exposure.

XArray™ - Penta source

 

 

Polarcus five source XArray™ Penta extends the multi-source overlap shooting concepts to acquire very dense cross-line sampling with conventional streamers. By using a five source configuration we are achieving a significant increase in data density using real un-interpolated data with cross-line sampling as dense as 6.25m. This type of acquisition is mainly aimed at specific projects where complex structures in the near surface need to be resolved to allow accurate imaging of the underlying hydrocarbon deposits.

Polarcus Penta XArray™, with a 12x62.5m streamer configuration, will deliver a 50% improvement in the Cross Line density compared to a conventional dual source with a 12x50m streamer configuration. The larger spread will also improve the operational efficiency by 25%.

By acquiring overlapping shot data where interference can be removed in processing to produce clean shot records of any desired record length, Polarcus Penta XArray™ also improves the unique ray-paths by 250%.

 

 

 

Powered by DUG Insight

 

From the processing side, Polarcus' data processing partner, DownUnder GeoSolutions (“DUG”) has further demonstrated highly successful removal of interference from overlapping data acquired at 12.5m shot intervals.

With this quality of Shot Interference Removal Polarcus and DUG has acquired and processed approximately 23,000 km2 of 3D multi-client data in the Roebuck Basin on Australia’s North West shelf, leveraging the Shot Interference Removal of overlapping shots to produce “clean” 12 second shot records every 12.5m along the survey lines.

Compared to conventional acquisition using dual sources to acquire 12 second records, the reduction of the shot interval to 12.5m produces at least a 100% increase in surface shot density without compromising vessel speed and overall survey efficiency

DUG’s processing and imaging codes are running on Intel Xeon Phi processors with DUG’s proprietary, immersive oil-cooling technology which has enabled a significant reduction of the computer footprint and a massive 40% reduction in power consumption – making it the greenest installation on Earth.
